Mobile User's Guide: How to Use the MarineWaze App

Navigation Warning

This app provides crowd-sourced marine information for informational purposes only. Conditions on the water can change rapidly, and reports may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date.

Always use official nautical charts, approved navigation equipment, weather forecasts, Notices to Mariners, and your own judgment when operating a vessel. Do not rely solely on this app for navigation or safety.

 

The app's developers and contributors are not responsible for any loss, damage, injury, or incident resulting from the use of this information. You are solely responsible for the safe operation of your vessel and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Getting Started

Profile & Float Plans

Under Menu, Profile & FloatPlans, create an account with a valid email.  Once logged in, float plans can be created and shared. 

Report Observations

All users can see observations.  Observations are archived every six hours and removed from the map. Login is required to report observations.  

NWS Alerts

LongPress anywhere to check for NWS Alerts and to report observations.​  Note: A LongPress is also used to pin point an observation.

Speeed

Vessel speed is measured in MPH.

Tracking

Tracking button shows the entire route and standard navigation.

New Route

Tap and hold the map to add waypoints along your route.  Remember to save your route

Edit Route

Tap and hold the map to add a waypoint to the end of your route . Select a waypoint to move.  Tap along the route to insert a waypoint

Save route

Save a route.  Routes are stored on the iPhone. Not in the cloud.  They are unique to the device. (Cloud storage coming soon)

Load route

Load a saved route.  Routes are stored on the iPhone. Not in the cloud.  They are unique to the device. (Cloud storage coming soon)

Import route

Import Route from Navionics" :@"Go to Navionics, Select Route, My Routes Archive (or Create an automatic or manual route) Save it.  Select Review and Share. Other options: Export GPX file. Select this app.  Route will auto load.

Marine Waves ("the App") provides crowd-sourced information submitted by users regarding marine conditions, hazards, navigational observations, and related information. The App is intended solely as an informational aid and is not a substitute for official navigation resources or prudent seamanship.

No Navigation Warranty

Information displayed by the App may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, delayed, unavailable, or incorrect. Marine conditions can change rapidly due to weather, tides, currents, vessel traffic, construction, navigation aids, and other factors beyond the control of the App.

The App does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or timeliness of any information presented.

Not a Substitute for Official Navigation Resources

The App is not an official navigation system and must not be relied upon as the sole source of navigational information.

Users should always use appropriate official nautical charts, approved navigation equipment, Notices to Mariners, weather forecasts, tide and current information, and maintain a proper lookout while operating a vessel.

User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for:

  • The safe operation of your vessel.

  • Maintaining a proper lookout.

  • Exercising prudent seamanship and good judgment.

  • Verifying all information before acting upon it.

  • Complying with all applicable federal, state, local, and international maritime laws and regulations.

Crowd-Sourced Content

Content submitted by users is not verified by Marine Waves before publication. Reports may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, duplicated, or intentionally false.

Marine Waves does not endorse or guarantee any user-submitted information.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Marine Waves, its developers, owners, contributors, licensors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or related to the use of, or inability to use, the App or any information provided by the App.

This limitation includes, without limitation:

  • Personal injury or death.

  • Vessel damage.

  • Groundings.

  • Collisions.

  • Environmental damage.

  • Property damage.

  • Financial loss.

  • Loss of profits.

  • Rescue or recovery expenses.

  • Any other damages resulting from reliance on App content.

Availability

Marine Waves may be unavailable due to maintenance, network interruptions, equipment failures, software defects, or circumstances beyond our control.

We make no guarantee that the App will operate continuously or without interruption.

No Emergency Use

The App is not designed or intended for emergency communications or distress situations.

In an emergency, contact the appropriate maritime rescue authorities using approved emergency communication methods, including marine VHF radio where appropriate.

Acceptance

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Marine Waves, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this disclaimer and assume all risks associated with using the App.
